My husband surprised me with the Speed Queen washer (TR7) and dryer (DR7). The washing machine is fabulous. The dryer is terrible! The metal plate on the back immediately turned black while burning our clothes. We cleaned the vents, replaced the panel and started drying everything on delicates and it still burns our clothes. I called the store we bought it from and a tech called us and said it would be $150 and basically told my husband it was user error and all the panels went dead. I don't spend 1/3 of a new LG or Samsung to have a tech come out and tell me user error. All of my sons underwear, socks, several shirts, countless blankets/duvets, and 3 sets of sheets are burned and ruined. Don't spend the grand on this dryer! My 8 year old Samsung dryer circled around this one, we never should have gotten rid of it!

I bought a new Speed Queen commercial top load washer and front load dryer in June 2016. Within a week I had service to try to fix the dings in the dryer. The repairman came 3 times and decided that he needed a new drum! That helped, but didn't really fix the noise. Today, December 2019, the repairman told me that my washing machine needs a new motor and some other parts, that's why it won't start or just shuts down. It also trips the circuit. I have had clothes with water in the machine for a week waiting for the repairman to come and fix it. Had to install new roller bars on the dryer for the bumps, and I guess we'll see how long that lasts. I am very disappointed in this set. I want to get my old Maytag back that I had been using for 15 years with no problem, but my home buyer wanted them so I let them go. I shouldn't have done that. I paid $157 today and who knows how much the washer repair will be.

We researched consumer reviews and online to find the best washer for our needs: top load agitator, gentle on clothes, extra spin, easy to use. The Speed Queen TR5 seemed to fit the bill. It's pricey, but the 10-year warranty along with built-in surge protection was very appealing. Purchased on 11/2019.

PROS: If you want an easy to use machine without a bunch of digital malarkie, this is it. If you prefer a vintage and simple look, this is yours. If you need a top-loading shaker that won't chew through your clothes, consider the TR5. If you like a 45 minute cycle, you got it. If HE is important, then here. If you only need small, medium and large loads, give it a try. Does a great warranty, outstanding reliability, and Made in the USA matter? Speed Queen Deals. CONS: When you want to throw away those extra socks, the "lid lock" doesn't make it easy. You have to stop the machine, wait for the click, insert/close additional items and press start again. I was told it only locked up during the "spin cycle" but that's not true.

Speaking of "spin cycle", the TR5 doesn't spin hard enough so I have to run an extra spin cycle (either permanent or heavy) and even then it still feels wetter than my previous GE washer. And slow motion is good for laundry, but maybe not so good for cleaning. Thank God we are not miners. The machine is a bit noisy.

CR didn't rate the Speed Queen well (tested the TR7) and wouldn't normally consider anything scoring that low, but it scored very high on just about everything except cleanliness...and so many other washers had at least something of that was not qualified well. So... our previous GE was a much better washer all things considered and if I were to rate our Speed Queen TR5 today it would be a C+.

I have been using this washing machine for over a year. The tub is barely 2/3 full and I was told by customer service that this is due to government regulations. Very annoying when you want to wash what normally counts as a full load. My MAIN COMPLAINT is the problem I have with the sheets, which literally knot and twist so much that I have to constantly control my washing machine like a naughty girl. I'm done taking care of my washing machine.

I have tried many techniques when washing sheets, one at a time with small items or pillowcases, a top and bottom sheet with a few other items. Ninety percent of the time I untangle soaked clothes so they are at least clean and monitor the rinse cycle. Has anyone found an answer to this problem?

Before we bought this Speed Queen AFNE9B-AWo1 Front Load Washer, we owned an old LG 10kg washing machine and being over 70 years old, we decided to shell out $3,500 to make the machine outlast us. Unfortunately, the "permanent ability" is useless if it doesn't work. IT WILL NOT CLEAN YOUR CLOTHES! This machine does NOT have a lint filter so lint stains will coat your freshly washed clothes and in the folds of clothes there are often dirt spots that need to be rubbed out in a tub of clean water despite the "second rinse" of the machine. My advice is: AVOID THIS MACHINE at all costs.

The Speed Queen washing machine we purchased from Warners Stellian has the model number AWN432SP113TWD4. Had repair staff 3 times due to water on the floor after washing. The problem cannot be determined. The problem continues every day, with water dripping on carpets and shoes. Stellian from Warners has been contacted and they want their fixer to come in for the fourth time. The company will not release a new washing machine because this Speed Queen washing machine leaks every day.

My family is very active. My daughter rides horses and works in a barn, so we have a lot of dirty, smelly clothes, including horse blankets and saddle pads. When my Maytag broke, I went to a small local store that had various brands of equipment for sale. I told the salesperson our situation and told him I didn't want anything fancy, I just wanted a "workhorse" washer and dryer. He recommended Speed Queen to me. I had never heard of Speed Queen but trusted him and made the purchase.

THEN I got home and read the reviews. I saw in the consumer report that the washing machine did not clean very well and of course I was very nervous. So the first day, when she was still able to return the washer, I put in the dirtiest, nastiest pads I had. These things were so hideous that they sat on the porch until they were washed up. I washed them in Tide and they came out perfectly clean! My first thought was how could anyone tell that this washer doesn't clean well. It cleaned up beautifully. I love my Speed Queen washer and dryer. This is a solid product that does the job well.

When I got my first dryer, everything was fine except none of the auto dry cycles progressed unless set to cool. The dryer ran for up to 4 hours without advancing. I stopped the dryer after 4 hours; I never tried more than 4 hours. I traded this dryer only to get a worse one (same model). Exactly the same problem, but it also makes a lot of noise, like shoes or a ball are in the dryer. The first dryer was very quiet. The noise comes and goes. Then, before I had time on my schedule for a service rep to come out about these issues, the heat stopped completely. The service guy replaced the igniter and that fixed the no heat issue, but he couldn't fix the other issues (he replaced a few other things, etc.).

Speed Queen refuses to replace this dryer. She says have the service guy come back or get someone else and let him talk to his tech. My service technician spoke with her technician and checked the wiring on the machine. Speed Queen customer service is still refusing to replace the dryer, insisting that service technicians should keep coming to fix the machine until it's fixed. This dryer is 2 months old and has never worked properly. It seems that they have a manufacturing defect that they do not admit.

I purchased my set on 1-8-18 and was told by the seller that this set is laundry room mat quality and is backed by a 10 year warranty. If it breaks, Speed Queen will have a mechanic at your house the next day. I said man that's nice the game was expensive but I liked the guarantee. Well, as always, it turned out to be a horse**, the dryer went out. I called Speed Queen and they said, "We're not fixing anything." We are looking for someone locally to fix the problem. Speed Queen should pay me the 3000 I have on their overpriced fake warranty they sell.

I don't really want to give this review a star, but I had to pick at least one. My only star is under duress. This machine does not deserve even one star. I bought a Speed Queen top load washer a year ago and used the "eco" setting which didn't rinse the soap out of my clothes and ended up with a terrible rash that I had to deal with. Speed Queen's customer service representative said that the "Eco" setting is to comply with government regulations and he should not use it and should always use "auto refill".

My clothes were never clean, on the contrary, they got dirty. The biggest test of all was that none of my dog's toys ever came out clean, they came out just as dirty as when I put them in the washing machine. I called Speed Queen customer service three times to discuss the disappointing performance of the machine..."don't use the eco setting". "Small loads won't get cleaned if they don't have enough clothes on them." "The machine is designed to wash clothes that rub against each other." I ended up buying an Electrolux after a year of frustration and my clothes were clean again.

I purchased this manure washer in August 2018. Since then I have had 7 services and have changed 2 full drums and the entire interior of the tub. Called Speed Queen and they said it was the technician's fault that it wasn't working properly. So they sent another tub and the techs replaced that too. This machine sounds like a jet plane taking off, and you better have your headphones on when you're doing laundry. Why wash? You're better off wearing your clothes inside out as it would be cleaner than what this $1000 piece of junk is getting.

Customer service, particularly John at Residential Washers, was hurt when I expressed my animosity to them. He acted like a baby and threatened to hang up if I wasn't nice to him. I asked him to call Speedy Appliance and then call me back. They told me they had to get approval from his boss to call me back. My comment to him at Alliance was to ask him if he needed permission to use the phone.

I made a HUGE mistake not bringing my hot tub washer and dryer kit to my new house. I had heard so many wonderful reviews of Speed Queen - workhorse, great warranties, etc. Now I'm stuck with a horrible washing machine and a disgusting musty smell. I contacted the retailer - the mold problem is not covered under warranty. They suggested that I contact Speed Queen directly, which I did but never received a response. Tried everything: vinegar/baking soda, Affresh, always left washer door wide open, nothing works. Twenty years ago I bought the first front-loading washer made by Maytag. I had the same mold problem and Maytag contacted me before I contacted them! Fixed the problem for FREE. My Opinion - Do not buy Speed Queen.

I call myself smart for buying a real cult American brand washer dryer set and to my surprise my 15 year old Roper, which I bought on Craigslist for $75, has this stainless steel washer for almost $3,000 washed. What I noticed right away was that after a full wash of this front loader, all my clothes smelled like tides. This machine does not wash clothes because it does not soak enough water. I am a trucker and travel the country regularly and found a similar machine in a Flying J that did the same thing. So I complained and asked for my money back because this machine made my clothes smell worse before washing them. And I was told that the government had decided how much water it takes to do laundry, that it's at least two gallons short, so no, I use an extra rinse cycle, which extends my cycle to an hour to smell the tide to remove.

I tried contacting the manufacturer to find a trick to add more water and these guys basically said "good luck with that". Ok let's get this straight, I paid almost $6,000 for this washer/dryer combo and I'm kidding you, my 100 year old roper cleans ten times better, and I spent over 15 years ago for less than $100 paid. That makes no sense.

Hello. We wanted to replace our old mid 80's Speed Queen washer and dryer and were horrified to learn that they changed the entire wash design. I did more research and found that the new design sucked and wasn't as effective as the old design. We won't be buying another Speed Queen game until you get back to the tried and true design. If it works, leave it alone. Switch to Maytag now. We sorry. FYI: I shipped appliances back in the early 80's and the best appliances and oldest working washers we've ever taken away have always been Speed Queens. Please combine it and reissue the old design. If you don't, I'm afraid you'll fail miserably in the housing market. I would appreciate your feedback on this topic.

I know a lot of people start with this, but I RARELY write reviews. Good or bad. After becoming frustrated with the lack of cleaning ability in our Whirlpool convertible washer, I took our mechanic's advice and purchased a Speed Queen washer and dryer SET. That was less than 8 months ago. I didn't even need the dryer, but hey, "get the game to play." Speed Queen has always had an impeccable reputation for quality and reliability. Brief story about the washer: The Speed Queen washer cleans average to poor at any temperature. The control knobs are simple and there is no way of knowing how long your cycle will be. I mean NONE.

Long story about the dryer: after only a few weeks the knob on the dryer was misaligned with the proper cycle and it took at least 2 full cycles to dry just about anything. I literally guessed where it was in a loop and hoped for the best. The dials are all cheap plastic (unlike your older, more reliable models) I've had the same button, timer and other parts replaced FOUR TIMES now. The last time was a week ago and it has happened again! FIVE TIMES in 8 months. I am beyond frustrated. Hence my rating. I called the only Speed Queen number I can find that seems to be related to customer service. I was told that to get a replacement machine I would have to go to the dealer and not through Speed Queen. No one wants to take responsibility for an obviously faulty machine.

I "inherited" the Speed Queen dryer with the bed and breakfast business that I bought 9 months ago. It is commercial grade, heavy duty. It drives me to despair! Even though the duvet covers are buttoned (I live in Australia) things still get tangled up inside and every once in a while the duvet cover even flips out, as do the pillowcases. How the hell can this happen??? And then there are the many, many times the sheets twist like a corkscrew. How can this happen? I have had many dryers in my life, none as expensive as this one, but they have all been 100% better than the Speed Queen. I HATE IT! Don't buy any! Rosie**, Australia.

I purchased a Speed Queen washer and dryer from Gerrit's Appliance in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both devices have all those tan spots. Gerrit went out to clean them once, but they just came back. I tried to get Speed Queen/Gerrit to take her back to no avail. Even when drying clothes, when you open the dryer door, the lint covers all the clothes. SQ sent me something but I already had one that didn't work. Plus, the timers are so quiet you can't hear them when the washer or dryer cycle ends. I have never had such bad service at either location, but especially at SQ. I spoke to a man named John and he did absolutely nothing. I then left him two messages but he never returned my calls. I would not buy any other SQ. Both the devices and the customer service are worthless. Please be very careful before buying.

Original Review: March 27, 2019

I bought a stackable Speed Queen after reading about the reliability and durability of the machines. I had read that they are workhorses and well built. Unfortunately they are not that well designed and it is a daily frustration when I use mine. First of all, the top door of the dryer is not round, it is flat on the bottom. This seems like a trivial detail, but because of the shape of the door opening, it's about 2-3 inches taller, which I need to grab dry clothes, and for me at 5'1" that's the difference between being able to reach the back of the machine or not. Presumably this was done to have a straight lint catcher, but that's a stupid compromise.

The lint catcher brings me to my next complaint. You can't remove the lint catcher without unscrewing it! To remove the lint all you have to do is hand scrub and grab the lint, not a big deal BUT if you want to give it a proper cleaning with a brush every once in a while like I do you can't. Most people may not clean the lint catcher and exhaust pipe from there, but I always have and I can see a lot of dust coming in through the catcher and lodged in the pipe behind where I can get to it without doing lever with my screwdriver outside. That's a ridiculous fire hazard and inconvenience for the average housewife, cleaner, or working mom.

The next problem is the soap dispenser. It's so poorly built that if you don't close the dispenser right away, it will run around the front of the machine, and not only that, it runs somewhere else where it's hard to reach and clean! When I take my soap dispenser out to clean every two weeks, the inside of the space it fits into also has dried-on liquid detergent stuck to the corners and edges. This is a bad design, it's not because I use too much detergent, I don't. The bottom plate at the bottom of the machine should also be cleaned/checked every 6 months as per the manual. Well, that's a huge pain in the neck, too, requiring taking the machines out of their built-in cabinet positions and loosening a couple of hex screws. Really? Couldn't they get access to the front only?

As for its functionality, it's fine. They are pretty quiet machines, they do their job although I don't think the automatic dryness sensor works and they certainly haven't broken even though I've only been using them for 1 year. Leaving the washer door open after use prevents bad odors, BUT the glass insert in the door collects a weird soapy mess that requires an abrasive sponge to clean every week. I use the same regular eco detergent (Persil) that I used on my old machine and have never had this problem, which leads me to believe it is due to the shape of the glass design. Of course these are also quite a bit smaller than many of the big machines out there, but this is well mentioned in their literature and was not a surprise.

However, you can't realistically process two sets of sheets in a single load. Then the machine just fills up completely and the dryer takes forever to dry when it's that full. This is a problem when you have a cleaning lady who washes all the sheets in one day. She will take forever. Luckily we only change our sheets on different days, but I no longer have a house full of kids; if it did, this would NOT be a functional washer and dryer for the family.

Our machine is less than eight months old or machine and we have two big problems. First, the inner plastic ring comes undone. We have pieces of plastic in our clothes. Eventually the entire ring will collapse. Our second problem is that we have an internal water leak in the bathtub. Fortunately, we have a plastic sheet under the machine, otherwise our wooden floors would be ruined. Nicknamed Speed Queen twice, we speak to someone named Tim who seems to have absolutely no information on anything. We had someone fix the machine and they told us to get a new one. It is in very bad shape.

The following week he came out again and was told he needed to replace the tub and liner and find out where the leak was in the tub. A week later today we call Speed Queen. I checked in with Tim again to find out the status of our parts and repairs. He didn't know. We called the appliance repair facility directly and they are trying to track our parts but they said Speed Queen ships stuff via a super cheap delivery service not UPS or FedEx and it's hard to even figure out where the parts are located as there is no tracking number. Meanwhile, every time I do a load of laundry, there are pieces of white plastic on my clothes. Oh, and I forgot to add that the machine also makes those horrible metallic noises. This is important. I paid a thousand bucks for this machine anyway, what a joke Speed Queen customer support. Unpleasant. Do not buy this machine or anything from Speed Queen.

I wanted a heavy duty dryer and bought it on the seller's recommendation. It was professionally installed by the dealer who has confirmed proper ventilation. Drying takes at least an hour per charge. Sensor cycles not working. Even with the "dry" setting, the clothes are still damp. After speaking with the manufacturer's representative, the repairman said that the dryer was working properly.

I contacted the company who wrote: “During the first 6 minutes of the cycle, the machine measures how wet the load is. During this time, the controller calculates how long it takes for the load to dry. It also takes into account, with the currently selected options, the average of the last 5 loads with the same selected settings. Time will vary based on load size, fabric type, load moisture content, airflow, and laundry room environment. After the first 6 minutes, when the time is calculated, the machine runs for that time."

In other words, the sensor does not "sense" the current load, but stops at an expected time, regardless of how dry the load is. In addition, the representative said that only "deli foods" should be dried in the delicate environment. Jeans, sweaters, and other items that would shrink in high temperatures are not "delicates." He suggested drying them on the timer on low. While this works, it means that the sensor setup is useless.

We bought the washer new in September 2018. We had heard that they were a top tier machine since they were considered commercial. Well last night we had the machine shred plastic in our drum. We have no idea what happened. Today is Sunday, so I have to wait until tomorrow to contact the service provider. Since shredding plastic was so weird, I decided to read some reviews tonight to see if anyone else had this problem. Lo and behold, Suresha from San Anselmo, CA posted a review on Jan 20, 2019 about the exact same issue. It seems that this machine is a lemon and it is broken.

I will take this information to the store where we purchased our machine. I don't even want to go through what she's already been through. I'll see what our dealer does to fix this, but I don't see anything other than replacing it with a new machine and even that, based on the other reviews I've read on Speed Queen, I don't want to stick with Speed. We bought it because it was big and the seller said it was reliable and within our budget. So far so good. It seems to do a good job cleaning our clothes. Our old washer and dryer were Maytag and they lasted 22 years and cleaned well. When we bought new, we needed something less expensive. Sounds like you're doing a good job.
